Outdoor / Indoor Wireless
Crossover Distribution, a leading North American wireless solutions provider that offers skilled design and implementation engineering expertise, and Rajant Corporation, a broadband communications technology company, have joined forces in a strategic distribution agreement to introduce Kinetic Mesh® to Crossover’s customers.
Kinetic Mesh®, a networking technology created by Rajant Corporation, allows Crossover customers in industries ranging from mining, indoor automation, smart cities, public safety and rural broadband to access better wireless communication and connectivity. Darin Gibbons, Executive VP of Crossover Distribution, cited the example of Sonim phones being used in underground mines where regular cell phone functionality is usually not viable. Through Rajant’s wireless networking, this is made possible.
“Placing a Rajant BreadCrumb radio on mobile equipment is a practical way to have voice coverage at the mine’s working face,” said Gibbons. “Crossover and Rajant recently completed a proof of concept deployment at the NORCAT test mine in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada, which allowed us to test our UHF/VHF to VoIP phone crossbanding solution that seamlessly allows the worker to use either a phone or a two-way radio to communicate on a legacy leaky feeder system and Kinetic Mesh system.”
Gibbons added that the successful testing made it possible for add-on technologies like fan controls, geotechnical sensors, post-blast reentry, gas monitoring, hazard alerts, tracking, traffic control, underground fleet management, seismic sensors, and more.
The primary customer base that uses Rajant’s Kinetic Mesh® is those working in mines and ports where a wireless connection is either unstable or completely non-existent. However, there are plans to expand the customer base to other industrial and municipal markets.
Darrell Gillis, Rajant Sales Director—Canada, explained, “With Rajant Kinetic Mesh® networking, Crossover now offers its clients a solution with total mobility, autonomous adaptability, and mission-critical reliability.” He continued, “As a fifth-generation mining sales and service specialist, I’ve witnessed first-hand the transformational nature of Rajant’s technology when it comes to mines. Of note is the exceptional work we are already doing in underground, which includes shaft sinking, shaft inspection, and maintenance.”
One of the stand-out features that Gillis noted is the connection strength of Kinetic Mesh®. With data that both transmits and receives at high speeds, Rajant provides coverage without dead spots.
Rajant’s Kinetic Mesh® technology has provided flexibility and reliability to Crossover customers in Canada, making it one of the company’s top regions. This innovative solution has effectively addressed real-world problems across various industries.

Identifying early the need for private network infrastructure that could effectively support fully mobile wireless communications in industrial settings, Rajant Corporation developed its patented Kinetic Mesh® technology—and in turn became the pioneer provider of the most adaptable, scalable, and readily deployed fully mobile network on the market today.
Rajant was established in October 2001, after founders Robert Schena and Paul Hellhake recognized the significant shortcomings in traditional wireless mesh technology, particularly when it came to mobile voice and data networks used by first responders. The Rajant team envisioned a new, more robust mesh technology that would allow these networks to be fully mobile and mobility-enabled, and operate reliably in even the most demanding environments. Enter the Rajant Kinetic Mesh® network.
