The SFD has been in service for over 60 years, with rapid growth and expansion within the last 20 years increasing the number of calls that need to be responded to. To ensure that the level of service is maintained, the SFD needed to upgrade its legacy microwave radio equipment that is quickly reaching end-of-life. With the 45mbps limiting operational capacity, and a new set of Public Safety Grade Systems and Facilities guidelines in 2014, the SFD needed to choose equipment that would meet their requirements.
After numerous radio manufacturers were evaluated, SAF was chosen for their long-term reputation for quality, technical support and cost to performance ratio. SAF Phoenix split-mount radios would provide the SFD with a redundant PSF network with high capacity hybrid-TDM/IP flexibility for future network upgrades.
